About

An IT analyst profile with a business analyst's communication habits.

My portfolio is built around the transition I am making: from business analytics and reporting into IT support, help desk, and systems roles. I have supported end users, documented recurring issues, worked with Windows deployments and hardware diagnostics, and practiced core infrastructure concepts through Azure, Active Directory, DNS, and packet analysis labs.

The business analytics work stays visible because it is part of how I operate in IT. I can organize messy information, identify patterns, explain tradeoffs, and turn technical details into steps that non-technical stakeholders can follow.

Hardware & Driver Troubleshooting | NVIDIA RTX 5080

RTX 5080 Black-Screen & Driver Stability Fix

Diagnosed and resolved repeated black screens and lost display signal on a dual extreme-refresh setup after an NVIDIA 596.49 driver update on a Blackwell-architecture RTX 5080, then documented the full process and shared it publicly to help others hitting the same bug.

Result: Idle VRAM clock dropped from a pinned 15001 MHz back to a normal 7001 MHz, core temperatures fell, and the system now runs 100% stable.
Read the full step-by-step troubleshooting writeup

Problem

  • PC began randomly black-screening and dropping the display signal under load immediately after updating to NVIDIA driver 596.49.
  • Windows "View reliability history" showed a long string of hardware crashes logged as LiveKernelEvent 1b8 and 193 codes.
  • GPU VRAM clocks were permanently pinned at maximum (15001 MHz) even at 0% desktop load, severely hurting stability.
  • Confirmed a documented bug on the 596.49 branch for Blackwell cards: configurations demanding over a 1620 MHz pixel clock trip a high-bandwidth threshold that disables GPU scaling and forces strict Display Stream Compression (DSC) routing, a branch the community flagged for idle timing timeouts and black-screen loops on dual extreme high-refresh setups.

What I did (in order)

  1. First DDU attempt. Ran Display Driver Uninstaller to wipe the graphics path, but initially only selected "NVIDIA" under the GPU dropdown, which left broken driver remnants behind in the system cache.
  2. Recovered the black screen, then cleaned properly. With only the generic Windows fallback driver, the displays went black because it could not handshake the panels' bandwidth demands. I forced a basic 60 Hz signal on a single monitor over HDMI to get the desktop back, then re-ran DDU and selected GPUs → ALL to fully scrub the driver stack.
  3. Updated monitor firmware. With the driver path cleared, I updated the internal firmware on the Alienware monitors using a USB upstream (printer) cable connected directly to the PC, as the firmware notes specify, to resolve connection and handshake issues.
  4. Swapped GPU power cabling. Replaced the bulky 3× 8-pin split adapter on the RTX 5080 with a native 12-pin-to-two-8-pin PCIe cable from an identical, matching PSU model. PSA: never mix cables across different power supplies, pinouts are not universal and a mismatch can fry hardware.
  5. Clean driver reinstall. With the power lines secure and matched, I performed a completely fresh, clean installation of the newest graphics driver.
  6. Matched the refresh rates. Because the new monitor firmware clashed with the driver's high-bandwidth DSC timing at absolute max bandwidth, I dropped the main panel from 480 Hz to 360 Hz in Windows Advanced Display settings so both panels run a steady, matched 360 Hz.

Outcome

Locking both panels to a matching 360 Hz baseline relieved the stress on the display-engine pipeline. The idle VRAM clock instantly cut in half (down to a resting 7001 MHz), core temperatures dropped, and everything is running 100% stable.

Networking Lab | DNS Troubleshooting

DNS Traffic Analysis Lab

Documented a repeatable DNS troubleshooting workflow for help desk and systems support, isolating name resolution failures from broader network problems, then proving the fix with live packet capture by following a single query end to end, from client to resolver and back.

  • Worked the resolution path top-down: confirmed the client's DNS server and connection-specific suffix with ipconfig /all, tested reachability with ping, and queried records directly with nslookup.
  • Cleared stale cache entries using ipconfig /flushdns and re-tested, separating local caching problems from authoritative resolution failures.
  • Captured live DNS queries and responses in Wireshark, reading source, destination, queried domain, record type, and returned IP to pinpoint exactly where resolution broke down.
  • Mapped common symptoms such as NXDOMAIN, query timeouts, and wrong IP answers to likely root causes and next steps, then wrote support-style documentation so a Tier 1 technician can repeat the workflow and escalate with evidence.

Google Workspace Admin & MFA Hardening

Administering the Google Workspace environment for our web studio from the Google Admin console, with a focus on hardening identity security. I enforce multi-factor authentication with the Google Authenticator app and apply security best practices to protect company accounts and data. This is hands-on systems administration experience I am actively building.

  • Enforced multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all users and required it for privileged and admin accounts.
  • Standardized on the Google Authenticator app, with FIDO2 security keys as a strong second option, and moved away from weak factors like SMS and voice call.
  • Tuned re-authentication frequency and access controls for sensitive accounts instead of trusting devices indefinitely.
  • Managed user accounts, groups, and organizational units, plus onboarding and offboarding for the team.
  • Maintained domain and email settings, including DNS and MX records for the studio's domain.

IT Devices and Software Tracker

Designed a relational inventory system for a consulting-company scenario to track employees, laptops, assigned devices, software packages, and software installations. Built as a database systems project, it centralizes the device, software, user, and asset details that IT teams usually spread across multiple systems and spreadsheets, so asset visibility and reporting stay accurate.

  • Built MySQL tables for employees, laptop inventory, software catalog, device assignments, and software tracker relationships, with keys that link each device and install back to a user.
  • Organized the build into separate SQL scripts for table creation, data insertion, table display, and validation test queries, so the database is repeatable and easy to rebuild.
  • Wrote SQL queries to identify hardware assigned to users, installed software by device, popular computer models, and top installed software packages.
  • Connected MySQL to Python using SQLAlchemy and Pandas, then visualized query results with Matplotlib.
  • Used a Jupyter notebook to read the live MySQL data with Pandas and answer operational questions about device assignments, installed software, and asset status.
  • Documented the full design in a database systems project report covering the schema, the queries, and the reporting findings.

Azure Networking and Packet Analysis

Built a small cloud environment in Azure to capture and analyze live network traffic between virtual machines, then used Network Security Group rules to control that traffic and confirm the changes with packet capture.

  • Deployed Windows 10 and Ubuntu virtual machines into a shared Resource Group and placed them on the same Virtual Network and subnet so they could communicate directly.
  • Connected to the Windows VM over Remote Desktop, installed Wireshark, and captured ICMP, SSH, DHCP, DNS, and RDP traffic by filtering for one protocol at a time.
  • Blocked inbound ICMP on the Ubuntu VM's Network Security Group during a live ping, watched the replies stop in Wireshark, then re-enabled the rule and confirmed traffic resumed in real time.
  • Used PowerShell to drive activity (ping, SSH, ipconfig /renew, and nslookup) and matched each action to the packets it generated, including why RDP streams traffic continuously while other protocols only appear on demand.
  • Cleaned up the environment by closing the Remote Desktop session and deleting the Resource Group to avoid leaving resources running.

AI & Automation

Building, validating, and automating with AI.

My main focus here is Side Quest Web Studio, a web design venture I am building with a partner to deliver professional, AI-built websites for clients across industries. The same approach runs through the rest of my AI work: validating my analytics projects against leading models, automating research and Excel data tasks, and researching how AI is reshaping the job market.

Side Quest Web Studio pipeline: client discovery, industry fit across film, e-commerce, manufacturing, and medical, design and content planning, Claude pair programming with Hector and Santiago, React Vite Tailwind build, manual review and QA, deploy on Vercel, and launch live site

Side Quest Web Studio Work in progress

Side Quest Web Studio is the business venture I am building with my partner Santiago. We are both from Guatemala and combine our MBA backgrounds with our IT work experience to launch it. After seeing how professional Claude-built websites can look, we turned it into a service: designing and deploying fast, modern, professional websites for clients, then shipping them on Vercel.

Bringing on clients across industries: film, e-commerce, manufacturing, and the medical sector.
  • End-to-end website design and build with Claude as an AI pair programmer, from layout and content to responsive styling.
  • Modern, maintainable stack: React, Vite, and Tailwind CSS, deployed on Vercel with a Git-based CI/CD pipeline that builds and ships every push automatically.
  • Every build reviewed and tested by hand before launch, so AI speed never comes at the cost of quality.
  • Lumetric Films is one of our first builds (below).

AI Agents | Research & Data Automation

Agentic Research & Excel Data Workflows

I use AI agents to take on repetitive, time-consuming work: gathering and summarizing research and keeping Excel datasets accurate and up to date, the same kind of reporting and tracking work I do in business analytics and IT support.

  • Ran agents to conduct background research, compile sources, and summarize findings into usable notes.
  • Used agents to update, clean, and maintain data in Excel spreadsheets, reducing manual entry and copy-paste errors.
  • Built repeatable prompts and workflows so the same task can be re-run reliably instead of redone by hand.
  • Kept a human-in-the-loop review step to verify agent output before it reached a final report or dataset.

AI Tools & Demos in the Modern Job Market

I authored a research paper examining how AI tools have reshaped the job search from 2023 to 2025, from resume writing and interview prep to employers like Meta beginning to allow AI in coding interviews. It compares platforms such as WonsultingAI, LockedIn AI, Cluely, Teal, and Final Round AI, and argues that the real edge is using AI effectively and ethically rather than hiding it.

  • Researched and compared leading AI job-search and interview-prep tools, including a structured comparison table of strengths, limitations, and reputation.
  • Covered AI resume writing, interview preparation, and how employers are responding to candidate AI use.
  • Documented every claim with cited sources in a formatted reference list.
